Let the carnival begin!

15 January 2018

Stratford Town Trust is proud to announce support for the inaugural Community Carnival Parade, part of the new look Shakespeare Birthday celebrations for 2018.

Community groups and charitable organisations in the town can apply for a grant of up to £250 for the provision of costumes for the walking tableaus, inspired by works of literature.

This Parade promises to be quite a spectacle.  There is no limit to the number of participants in each literary tableau, the only stipulation is that each and every tableau should be representative of the work of fiction they set out to portray.  The scope is endless as the tableaus are not restricted to just works by William Shakespeare.

We hope to see characters from the likes of Charles Dickens, Jane Austin, Beatrix Potter, Roald Dahl, A A Milne, Arthur Conan Doyle, and let us not forget J K Rowling! The list is endless and almost anything goes.  However, needless to say, all tableaus must be suitable for a family audience!

Anyone wishing to enter a tableau needs to register with the Town Council using this link. Please note the date for registering your interest has been extended so please apply now!

The closing date for costume grant applications is WEDNESDAY 14 MARCH 2018.  Successful applicants will be paid  at the end of March. Please e-mail: or call 01789 207114/207108  for the application form. Applications can only be accepted from town resident groups or charities.
