How we are governed
Stratford Town Trust is run by a small team of dedicated staff governed by eleven Trustees, all of whom must be members. They are:
- Five trustees elected by the membership
- Three trustees nominated by Stratford Town Council
- Three trustees co-opted by the board to provide additional skills
Trustees usually serve a four-year term from appointment, with the opportunity to stand for a further term. Governance of the charity is achieved through the following meeting structure:
- Board (11 trustees)
6 meetings per year plus 1 off site strategy day
- Finance Investment and Property Committee (5 trustees)
6 meetings per year
- Grants and Community Engagement Committee (7 trustees)
5 meetings per year
- Audit and Governance Committee (3 trustees plus 2 non execs)
4 meetings per year

In accordance with our Memorandum and Articles applicants must reside within the town boundary of Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Trust seeks to have a Board which is representative of the community and positively encourages applications from any suitable candidate, regardless of gender, disability, age, religion, beliefs, or ethnicity.
Our current Trustees
Tony Jackson, Chairman
Tony is a nominated Trustee and was elected to Chair in 2021. Being elected to the Town Council in 2015 provided the opportunity to put himself forward to serve as a Trustee with the Town Trust. His interest in the Trust first came about during the £1m Community Challenge in 2013. He has lived in the area for over 35 years, working at NFU Mutual. Tony met his wife there and they have two adult children. He is Club Secretary of Stratford Athletics' Club and a competitive runner and qualified official.
Tim Bailey, Deputy Chair
Tim was elected Trustee in 2018 and appointed as Deputy Chair in 2021. In 2022 he was re-elected for a second four year term. Tim has lived in Stratford for 50 years, working as a Police Officer for 30 years with a further 10 years in secondary education prior to retiring. He is married with two sons and is involved in several community groups including Friends of Rowley Fields. Previously Tim has chaired his local Scout Group, was a Governor at Stratford upon Avon School for 7 years and attends St James Church, Alveston. He joined the Trust to help serve the local community and ensure the Trust's assets are used to their best effect.
Gill is a nominated Trustee, her term having commenced on 1 June 2020. Gill moved to Stratford in 2008 and was elected to the Town Council in 2019. She is passionate about the town and supporting its residents and is heavily involved in several local community organisations. She helped to set up and volunteers with the Avon Valley Community First Responders; is a leader with Stratford Girlguiding and is a volunteer chaperone for several local youth organisations. She runs her own business and a business networking group.
Liz is a nominated Trustee, her term having commenced on 1 June 2020. Liz was born in Wales and spent most of her life in North London with a brief spell working in The Netherlands. She moved to Stratford with her family in 2015 and was elected to the Town Council in 2019. Liz has degrees in Information Science and Information Systems and post graduate qualifications in School Business Management. She originally started as a researcher and library manager in the petrochemical industry. After having her children she changed direction and moved into database design and programming. She is now the business manager for a primary school in Warwickshire. Liz has been a school governor for over 10 years for a secondary school as well as a trustee of the academy and member for the multi academy trust. She has always felt strongly about the need to provide opportunities for the next generation.
Stephen is a co-opted Trustee. He is currently a Pro-Chancellor of Coventry University having served as Chair of the Board of Governors from 2015-18. He is also a Non-Executive Director of TRL Ltd, a Non-Executive Director of YASA Ltd and a Non-Executive Director and Senior Advisor to FEV Group GmbH. Stephen during his career has held a number of senior executive positions in large international companies. He was born and has spent most of his life in South Warwickshire and his family are deeply rooted in the area. He has lived in Stratford upon Avon for the past 21 years.
Clive was co-opted to the Board in January 2015 and has recently been appointed for a further four year term. His background as a chartered accountant fitted the Trust's requirements and with his wealth of experience now chairs the Finance Investment & Property Committee. His family has lived in the Stratford area since 1992 and he and his wife moved to Old Town in 2012. He is a patron of the RSC.
Josie was first appointed as Trustee in 2020 and re-elected in 2022. Josie is a brand marketing and communications specialist and returned to Stratford in 2014 having lived here happily in the early 1990s. After a career in arts, entertainment and sports marketing both in the UK and overseas, she is passionate about putting down roots and giving back to this beautiful town and the community. Josie previously ran Sport England’s multi-award winning This Girl Can campaign aimed at getting more women and girls more physically active. Josie is passionate about the arts and is also a Trustee of internationally acclaimed dance-circus company, Motionhouse, based in Royal Leamington Spa.
Jonathan was appointed as a co-opted Trustee at the beginning of April 2022 and is a qualified accountant with over 25 years’ experience working in public sector finance and currently works in Westminster. As well as being a finance professional he has an MBA and has been a member of the Chartered Management Institute for many years. Brought up in south Birmingham he has recently relocated to Stratford as he loves the area and can be nearer to friends and family. He has been involved with several charities in the arts, development, and justice areas for over 20 years as a chair, trustee or treasurer. To relax he enjoys the arts as well as watching football and rugby and cycling.
Henry was elected Trustee in 2022. He lives in Shottery and comes from a background in stockbroking and gold and silver exchanges. Since retiring he has been involved as an adviser at Citizens Advice South Warwickshire; acts as a mentor to young accountants and engineers; selected to serve as a panel member on the National Grid Electricity Group pension scheme trustee board; and was a candidate in both the 2019 General Election and the Police Crime Commissioner Election in 2021. He has a law degree with final-year modules on trusteeship, land and property laws. Professionally qualified as a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Global Management Accountant, Henry also has a Doctorate Degree in electrical engineering.
Marion was elected Trustee in 2022. She has lived in Stratford for over 30 years and is married with two daughters. In the past she has worked at both Holy Trinity Parish and Stratford Methodist Church and has served as a school governor at Broad Street Primary School. She was also the Manager at Stratford Foodbank for over six years and now works for the Trussell Trust.
Michael was elected Trustee in 2022. He has lived in Stratford for over 24 years and is married to Kate with three children. Kate served as Mayor in 2019/20 and, as her consort, Michael was involved with fundraising activities and became very familiar with local voluntary organisations and charities. In his professional career he joined the BBC in 1971 working in London and Pebble Mill as a Producer, Writer and Director in TV and Film Drama and became freelance in 1982. Although now retired, Michael maintains a strong interest in the local arts scene both as an audience member and as a director with local theatre companies.
