The Guild Chapel forms part of the estate of Stratford Town Trust, located on the intersection of Church Street and Chapel Street. It is one of the most familiar and important historic buildings in Stratford.

The Chapel’s history dates back to the 13th century and has connections with both the Clopton and Shakespeare families of Stratford.

After the Chapel was rebuilt in the 15th century, the Chapel walls were covered with paintings of saints, bible stories and allegorical images reflecting on the afterlife and how to get into heaven. They were hidden under whitewash after the Reformation when images like this were banned, quietly waiting to be rediscovered centuries later. We are still discovering more today. Step inside and see these internationally important paintings for yourself, including our magnificent Doom painting…
